Account Suspension
Definition
A temporary or permanent restriction placed on a Reddit account by Reddit's administrators, preventing all posting, commenting, voting, and login activity across the entire platform. Issued for serious or repeated violations of Reddit's Content Policy.
Context
Reddit distinguishes between temporary suspensions (typically 3–7 days for first serious violations) and permanent bans for severe or repeated violations. Brands receiving suspensions can appeal through Reddit's official process, but success rates are low for accounts with clear policy violations in their history. Prevention through compliance is significantly more cost-effective than attempting remediation after suspension.
Relevance to Reddit
Account suspension is the most severe platform-level enforcement outcome for a brand. Unlike subreddit bans, which restrict access to one community, suspension ends all Reddit activity for that account — including any karma equity, community relationships, and content history built over time. The investment in account credibility is entirely lost upon suspension, making compliance a direct business continuity concern.
