REDDIT REPUTATION MANAGEMENT

You can't delete what Redditors said, but you can shape what they say next.

Negative Reddit threads can influence customers, but fighting them directly usually backfires. Build an owned subreddit that fills Reddit with conversations you influence, so the ones you don't gradually lose their power.

The usual fixes for negative Reddit threads usually make them worse.

Criticism in communities you don't control can run away from you quickly. Here's what brands usually try, and why it backfires.

Seeding campaigns

✕

Fake or borrowed accounts posting praise get spotted, and the callout becomes the new top comment, right next to the thread you wanted gone.

Comment campaigns

✕

Disclosed brand handles jumping into old threads land at the bottom, where late comments barely register. On quieter threads, replying just adds fuel.

Takedown requests

✕

Reddit rarely removes criticism that follows its rules, and pushing for it can draw more attention to the thread you want to erase.

COMMUNITY LEVERAGE

Build and scale your own subreddit instead.

A growing audience scales your community for you and extends your influence into every subreddit they're active in. That's Community Leverage, and it's what makes Reddit worth investing in.

WHAT WE'VE LEARNED

Pull the conversation into a space you control.

You can't change how unhappy customers feel. But you can pull their criticism into a space full of your biggest fans, where you can address it on the record.

Where criticism gets posted matters

Criticism will happen anyway. Better it collects in your subreddit than in a big community where it can go viral.

Your answer stays on top

Respond publicly and pin it, so anyone asking the same question later finds your answer first.

Supporters with a home

Pull in people who've had good experiences and give them reasons to speak up, in your community and beyond.

PROOF & TRUST

What happens when your brand has a home on Reddit.

Case Study: r/FlexcarUSA

After six months in subreddits it didn't own, Flexcar built r/FlexcarUSA. Today, customers bring their questions and criticism there, from eligibility questions to complaints about its Safe Driving Program, and Flexcar answers them publicly in a space it controls.

Questions, Answered

Reddit reputation management FAQ

No, and we'd be wary of anyone who says they can. Doing it means breaking Reddit's terms of service, with potential legal consequences, and if people notice, it blows up your brand anyway. We don't focus on erasing criticism. We pull it into a space you control, where you can give it a visible, public response before it blows up in other communities. Over time, that response and the rest of your community's content start to outweigh negative threads elsewhere, and the people who like you start jumping in on your behalf.

That's astroturfing. It breaks Reddit's terms of service and violates the FTC's rule against fake reviews and testimonials. It gets content taken down and handles banned, and it can get your domain flagged across Reddit, suppressing even real organic chatter about you. The goal is to outweigh negative threads over time, not to fight them head-on.

Not until you have a strong community. An old thread with few comments probably isn't ranking well, so replying just adds fuel. One with lots of comments has already settled: a late reply lands at the bottom, and Reddit gives late comments little weight, so almost no one sees it. There isn't much you can do in that thread. A strong community changes that, because members who like you start jumping in on their own.

Criticism will happen either way, and it's better in a space you control. You can lock a thread that gets out of hand, remove posts that break your rules, and pin a public response to fair criticism. And because your subreddit is smaller than the big ones, a complaint there is far less likely to go viral. See how Flexcar answers criticism in its own subreddit.

It depends on your market: how many people like you, and how many don't. We can't change the fact that some people have had bad experiences. We can activate the ones who like you and give you more control over the ones who don't. You should see that impact within the four months of a Subreddit Launch Sprint, and it compounds from there. Building a subreddit is a long-term play. Short-term fixes for Reddit sentiment tend to be the kind that get you banned, or subpoenaed.
