Ad Group
Definition
A subdivision within a Reddit Ads campaign that specifies audience targeting, placement settings, bid strategy, and flight scheduling. Multiple Ad Groups can exist within one campaign, each targeting a different audience segment or community cluster.
Context
Since the late 2025 Ads Manager redesign, Ad Group targeting is organized into Audience Suggestions (guiding the algorithm) and Audience Controls (hard limits). A subreddit added as a Suggestion gives the algorithm room to expand; one added as a Control guarantees delivery only to that community. This distinction has significant practical implications for campaign behavior.
Relevance to Reddit
Ad Groups are where targeting precision is set. Build separate Ad Groups per audience hypothesis — by interest category, subreddit cluster, or keyword — so performance data stays clean and optimization compares like-for-like. Bundling unrelated audiences makes it impossible to know what is and is not working.
