A Reddit format in which an individual opens themselves to unfiltered community questions and responds in real time within a dedicated thread. AMAs are hosted within subreddits — most famously r/IAmA — and rely entirely on the host's credibility and transparency for their effectiveness.
Context
Notable brand and founder AMAs have generated millions of views and significant media coverage. The format's power comes entirely from authenticity — AMAs where hosts dodge questions or provide promotional non-answers are called out explicitly by community members and often generate negative press coverage that can rank in search results for years.
Relevance to Reddit
AMAs are one of the highest-visibility organic formats available to brands and their leaders. A successful AMA demonstrates genuine expertise, humanizes the brand, and generates substantial community engagement.
