Subreddits

Definition

A Reddit marketing approach, as defined by Karmic, in which a brand creates and moderates its own subreddit and grows it with content, paid distribution, and disclosed participation. Karmic's current version of this approach is the Community Leverage framework.

Context

Karmic now runs this approach as Community Leverage: build a brand subreddit, seed it, distribute it through paid promotion, team activation, and network activation, then shift content creation to members. Owned communities perceived as purely self-promotional see rapid disengagement, so the brand's role should move from creating the conversation to hosting and moderating it.

Relevance to Reddit

Community Cultivation is the highest long-term value Reddit program and the most resource-intensive. An owned subreddit gives community-level moderation authority, access to growth levers without third-party approval, and a compounding SEO and AEO asset. Expect a four-month launch sprint before the community can be judged, and longer before it becomes self-sustaining.
