Crossposting

Reddit Platform

Definition

The act of sharing a Reddit post from one subreddit into another, using Reddit's native crosspost feature. The crosspost maintains attribution to the original submission and links back to the source community.

Context

Reddit's crosspost feature was added in 2017. It differs from simply re-linking the same URL across multiple subreddits — a crosspost maintains explicit connection to the original post, including its comment thread link. This connection makes crosspost history visible in a post's metadata, which moderators can review when assessing account behavior patterns.

Relevance to Reddit

Crossposting extends reach for high-performing content without duplicating creative work. For brand content, the native attribution makes the crosspost's origin transparent — a disclosed brand account crossposting content is clearly identified as doing so. Check destination subreddit rules before crossposting — many prohibit it, and AutoModerator may remove crosspost submissions automatically.
