Definition
A classification tag applied to posts or entire subreddits containing adult, explicit, or graphic content. NSFW content is hidden behind a click-through warning by default and excluded from certain feeds and ad placements.
Context
Reddit's NSFW classification is applied by subreddit moderators and enforced at the post level. Reddit's advertising platform provides brand safety controls to exclude NSFW content at the campaign level. For brands with particular brand safety sensitivity, Reddit offers additional safety targeting options through their managed service and direct sales offerings.
Relevance to Reddit
Brand advertisers must explicitly exclude NSFW subreddits and placements from all Reddit Ads targeting to maintain brand safety. In organic programs, NSFW communities are off-limits for brand participation. Verify subreddit content classification before engaging with any community — some are NSFW-tagged for reasons not immediately obvious from the community name.
