Poll Post

Reddit Platform

Definition

A Reddit post format allowing users to create a question with multiple selectable answer options that community members can vote on. Poll results are displayed in real time as votes accumulate.

Context

Reddit's poll format was introduced in 2020. Polls support up to six answer options and voting periods of one to seven days. Poll results are publicly visible to all users, not just those who voted. Some subreddits explicitly prohibit polls in their rules; others welcome them as a discussion format. Verify rule status before using polls in third-party communities.

Relevance to Reddit

Poll Posts are a legitimate format for genuine community research when approached transparently. Disclosed brand accounts can use polls to understand community preferences, gather category feedback, or facilitate community discussion. However, polls designed primarily to collect market research data without contributing community value — or to manufacture apparent consensus — are considered engagement bait by most subreddits.
