Retargeting

Reddit Ads

Definition

A paid advertising strategy that re-serves ads to users who have previously visited an advertiser's website via the Reddit Pixel, engaged with their Reddit ads, or interacted with their Reddit posts.

Context

Reddit supports three retargeting audience types: Website Custom Audiences (Pixel-based), Engagement Audiences (users who interacted with Reddit ads or posts), and Customer List Audiences (hashed email CRM uploads). Each targets a different familiarity stage and benefits from different creative approaches — moving from awareness messaging to proof-based or offer-based creative as familiarity increases.

Relevance to Reddit

Retargeting closes the loop between organic trust-building and paid conversion. A user who read a Reddit thread recommending your product, visited your site, and did not convert can be retargeted with a conversion-focused ad. This flywheel between organic credibility and paid follow-through is one of Reddit's most distinctive performance advantages.
