Self-Sustaining Community
Definition
The third stage of scaling a brand subreddit, as defined by Karmic: members create enough net-new threads, and those threads earn enough independent engagement, that routine brand participation is no longer required to keep the community active.
Context
Karmic measures this stage by member-created threads, the engagement they earn, and whether activity continues during normal gaps in brand posting. Getting there involves tapering brand threads gradually, turning active commenters into creators, amplifying member content, and recruiting trusted members as moderators.
Relevance to Reddit
Self-Sustaining is the point where a brand subreddit becomes a compounding asset. The brand's work shifts from creating the conversation to hosting, moderating, and amplifying it.
