Subscriber Count

>

Subreddits

Definition

The total number of Reddit accounts that have joined a subreddit, displayed on the community page. In Reddit's newer interface, subscribers are referred to as 'members.'

Context

Reddit provides three related metrics on subreddit pages: total subscribers/members (all-time joins), online now (current real-time active users), and estimated monthly active users in moderator analytics. The ratio between online-now and total subscribers is one of the clearest quick indicators of community engagement health without requiring access to moderator-level data.

Relevance to Reddit

Subscriber count is a useful but incomplete measure of subreddit value. Engagement rate — active users relative to subscribers — is a more meaningful signal of community health. A 40,000-member subreddit with high daily active users often outperforms a 2-million-member community with low per-post engagement for brand participation purposes.
