Video Ad
Definition
A Reddit ad format in which the creative unit is a video file that plays in-feed as users scroll through subreddit feeds or their home feed. Supports autoplay with sound off by default, with sound activating on user tap.
Context
Reddit video ads support lengths from 5 seconds to 10 minutes, though performance data across most categories suggests 15–30 second videos outperform longer formats for brand recall and completion rate. Vertical (9:16) format performs best on mobile, which represents the majority of Reddit sessions.
Relevance to Reddit
Video ads are effective for demonstrating products in action, telling brand stories, or conveying complex information that text and image cannot communicate concisely. Default-off sound means the first few seconds of video must communicate value without audio. Design video creative for silent viewing first and audio as a secondary enhancement.
